There can’t be many Coronation Street viewers who weren’t glad to see the back of Nessa when she got her marching orders from Ken tonight.
She’s been spectacularly annoying from the very start – an incongruous, grating presence in the Barlow house, greatly resented by Tracy (and the rest of us) for taking up with Ken so soon after Deirdre’s death.
But if you think about it, the writers have actually played a blinder. There were strong murmurs of discontent when rumours first surfaced of a romance between Ken and Audrey. By hammering us with the awful Nessa first, they’ve ensured that the audience will welcome the “real” pairing with open arms.
Who knows – Tracy might even crack a smile at the prospect.
