The show must go off

PINK! Will & Grace, Living TV, 9.00pm

Will & GraceIt's the last ever episode of Will & Grace tonight, folks. It's not really getting the same fanfare that the last episode of, say, Friends got, largely because in our humble opinion Will & Grace jumped the shark big-time a couple of years back and never really recovered. That's not to say we can't honour it with our memories of the sharp, witty show it once was, of course.

As always with the final episode of a sitcom, there are lots of loose emotional ends to be tied up, such as whether Will and Grace will ever find partners upon whom they can become as co-dependent as they are on each other, whether Jack will finally win an Emmy, whether Karen will remember her stepchildren's names, whether Rosario will finally be freed from the hell that is her life, will they all stop shouting and mugging, that sort of thing.

So: final episode, then. Tears, and tough decisions. And we'll miss it, in a weird way, because there aren't many US comedies as brazen as this one. Judging by some of the recent ones we've seen (The War At Home, anyone?), that's probably not necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, we shall mourn the man, the fag hag, and the second-billed characters who've been stealing the show from day one.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
