They're dinky!

NARF! Pinky And The Brain, BBC1, 3.50pm

If your idea of comedy is a pair of lab mice who engage in nightly schemes to take over the world, then you're going to love Pinky And The Brain.

Each episode starts with the rather dim-witted Pinky asking his cage-mate: "Gee, Brain - whadya wanna do tonight?". The Brain always responds, in booming Orson Welles-tones: "Same thing we do every night, Pinky – try to take over the world".

There usually follows a hare-brained (or mouse-brained) scheme to seize control of the planet involving a shrinking ray, weather machine or similar apparatus. The Brain's dreams of conquest are constantly thwarted by Pinky's shortcomings in the sense department ("Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Pinky" ... "I think so, Brain, but where are we going to get two pairs of lederhosen our size?")

Today, Pinky and the Brain find themselves in Victorian England, where The Brain plots to overthrow the Earth by becoming president of the Pompous Explorers' Club – a position which usually leads to becoming Prime Minister. But, to achieve his goal, he must make it around the world in 79 days. A lesser mouse might need 80, but not our Brain. But what could possibly go wrong?

Is this just new to the UK? I watched this when I was 11 in Ireland. It's old, but brilliant.

About Us

According to Marxist theory, cultural forms such as opera, classical music and the literary works of Shakespeare all fall under the heading of high culture. Low culture refers to a wide variety of cultural themes that are characterised by their consumption by the masses. We might not be Marxists, but we do know we loved Footballers Wives. If you do too, you'll know what this is all about.
